Azbukum is the first independent centre for studying Serbian as a foreign, non-native or heritage language.
It has been operating continuously as an independent educational institution since 1995. Serbian language learning programs for adults at Azbukum are accredited by the Qualifications Agency of the Republic of Serbia.
A Meeting Place, a Nursery of Friendship
The centre is open to all people around the world, regardless of origin, age or professional affiliation. Thousands of people have learned the Serbian language at Azbukum, discovered various stories about Serbian tradition and culture, and travelled around Serbia with us. Azbukum is not only a showcase of the culture and language of its people, but also a meeting place for many cultures of other peoples, and a nursery of friendship and love among the people who come to it.

Over the past decades, Azbukum has gathered a large number of lecturers, associates and all those who have left their mark on the work of the Center and contributed to Azbukum taking the place it deserves today. As the Centre has grown, so too has its team. Today, in addition to the director and lecturers, Azbukum includes coordinators, professional associates, and administrative staff.
The Azbukum Centre's Author Team
Over the years of its existence, the creation of teaching materials for learning the Serbian language has become one of the Centre’s core activities. Today, Azbukum’s online programs and textbooks are widely regarded as leading resources for learning Serbian around the world. They are an indispensable support for work in many schools, institutions and organizations that offer Serbian classes in Serbia and abroad.
Azbukum Centre Council
The Azbukum Centre was founded in 1995 as an independent educational institution. Excellent lecturers and methodologists have been involved in the preparation of Serbian language learning programs, accredited by the Qualifications Agency of the Republic of Serbia, for decades. The author team, in conjunction with the members of the Azbukum Centre Council, does everything to make Serbian as a foreign/non-native/heritage language as accessible and easy to learn as possible.
Accreditation of Azbukum Programs
The Azbukum Centre holds the status of Publicly Recognized Organizer of Adult Education Activities – JPOA for Serbian language programs as a foreign/non-native/heritage language, which is awarded by the Qualifications Agency, established by the Government of the Republic of Serbia. The accreditation is issued for five years, and Azbukum holds JPOA status for two terms, from 2017 and 2023.
