Certificate of Language Proficiency

Azbukum Certificates of Serbian Language Proficiency are recognized for employment and university admissions in the Republic of Serbia and internationally as an official document.

The tests are prepared according to the accredited Azbukum scale of proficiency and fully aligned with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages – from beginner (A1) to advanced (C2). The content and scope of the test depend on the candidate’s age and the level for which the test is intended.

Official Serbian Language Proficiency Test for Adults

By taking the official test to determine your Serbian language proficiency, you will receive a Certificate from Azbukum Center in both Serbian and English. The certificate is an official document that proves your level of proficiency in Serbian and is required for enrollment in university studies in the Republic of Serbia.

Is special preparation required for the Official Test?

It is certainly recommended to carefully assess the level at which you wish to take the test. You can consult the Azbukum Test Center (aoserbian@azbukum.edu.rs) and, if needed, schedule preparatory lessons.

What level of test is for me?

Before registering for the Official Test, we advise you to carefully assess the level at which you wish to take the test. Take the Diagnostic Knowledge Test for Adults and consult with the Azbukum Test Centre staff at aoserbian@azbukum.edu.rs.

How can I register for the Official Test?

The test for adults is typically organized on the last Friday of each month. Check the Schedule and select your preferred date. Register at least seven days in advance by emailing aoserbian@azbukum.edu.rs. You will receive instructions for payment and confirmation of your test date reservation.

Before registering, we recommend carefully evaluating the level at which you wish to take the Official Test.

What does the testing process look like?

The Official Test consists of five sections: Reading and Comprehension, Language in Use, Listening, Writing, and Speaking.

Each section is worth 60 points, with a total maximum score of 300 points. To pass, candidates must achieve at least 60% correct answers (180 points overall), including a minimum accuracy of 60% in all five sections to receive the Azbukum Certificate of Serbian Language Proficiency at the level tested.

Three sections (Reading and Comprehension, Language in Use, Listening) are completed interactively on the Azbukum platform, where candidates receive access to their test. The Writing and Speaking sections are conducted via online meeting applications such as Zoom or Skype.

The test is conducted online, usually on the last Friday of each month. Registration must be completed at least one week prior to the test date.

Official Serbian Language Proficiency Test for Children and Young Adult

The official test for children and teens is intended for candidates aged 10 to 17. The goal of the Official Test is to determine the level of proficiency and issue an official Azbukum Certificate of Serbian language proficiency.

Before registering for the Official Test, we recommend carefully assessing the level at which you wish to take the exam.
Take the Diagnostic Test for Children and Young Adult and consult with the staff at the Azbukum Test Center at aoserbian@azbukum.edu.rs to determine the appropriate level for you.

How can I register for the Official Test?

Contact the Azbukum Test Center at aoserbian@azbukum.edu.rs and schedule your test appointment at least seven days before your desired date. You will receive payment instructions and confirmation of your test reservation.

What does the testing process look like?

The test consists of five sections: Reading and Comprehension, Language in Use, Listening, Writing, and Speaking. Each section carries a maximum of 60 points, with the entire test totaling 300 points. To pass, candidates must achieve a minimum of 60% correct answers (180 points in total), ensuring at least 60% accuracy in all five sections to receive the Certificate of Serbian Language Proficiency for the level they took.

The Accredited Certificates of Serbian language proficiency are supported by the Government of the Republic of Serbia and are recognized for employment or university admissions in the Republic of Serbia, as well as internationally.

Accredited Serbian Language Proficiency Test

All participants of Azbukum’s accredited courses for adults, upon completing the course or level, are given the opportunity to take the Accredited Serbian Language Proficiency Test for free. After passing the test, participants receive a Certificate of Language Proficiency, issued by Azbukum Centre with approval from the Qualifications Agency of the Republic of Serbia.

How can I use the accredited Certificate of Language Proficiency?

The accredited Certificate of Language Proficiency is an officially recognized document in the Republic of Serbia, as well as abroad. You can present it as a proof of your Serbian language proficiency when applying for a job or enrolling in a university.

Can I take the Accredited Language Proficiency Test even if I am not a student of Azbukum courses?

Unfortunately, no. This test can only be taken by students of Azbukum’s regular group courses and long-term programs (Serbian for studies).

Is special preparation required for the Official Test?

You will be prepared for this test by a professor during the program you are attending.

Anyone who already has some knowledge of Serbian should take the diagnostic test before enrolling in a course or before taking the official test in Azbukum. Based on the test results, a clearer picture of the current level of knowledge is obtained, and it is determined which program is most suitable or which level of the official test the individual can take.
